The Compound
Tasteful in every detail and appointed with modern amenities and a beautiful new pool, CalyCanto Casitas presents you with the opportunity to rent one of three fully furnished homes in a lavish boutique resort community, located on five gently sloping acres of desert terrain, 700 yards above the Pacific Ocean. The property is 2.5 miles from the town of Todos Santos, offering magnificent ocean views and generous terraces. All in a spacious, yet intimate, setting.
Embodying the architectural heritage of Mexico, rustic design seamlessly blends with modern conveniences to stimulate the senses. Expansive and richly appointed, each casita offers an indoor-outdoor flow, with colorfully painted designs and finishes, decorative wrought-iron, and antique mesquite furniture painstakingly handcrafted by Mexican artisans.
Walk barefoot on Saltillo floors. Enjoy breakfast on colorfully hand painted Talavera tiles. Siesta in a hand-woven hammock for two as gentle shadows from the Palapa roof drift across the room and the ocean breeze blows gently across the terrace. Take an outdoor shower while watching the silhouette of Royal Palms and native cacti dot the sunset.
These lavish accommodations offer the perfect rooftop vantage point to contemplate the moon’s reflection over the migrating whales in the deep blue waters of the Pacific. From the master bedroom or your private terrace, gaze upon a pristine, white sand beach, or simply enjoy a refreshing siesta in one of the shaded hammocks under a Palapa. Or, if you prefer, enjoy a moonlit dinner on your private terrace before you sneak inside to the comfort of 500 thread count sheets.
While some guests choose to never leave the premises, others prefer to participate in limitless adventure and exploration. Look out your window to watch the annual migration of the Humpback and Gray Whales or check the surf. Witness pottery being first hand, with the same process used for centuries in the nearby Sierra de la Laguna mountain range. Take a Yoga or a Spanish class in the timeless town center. Savor some of the best restaurants in Baja. Relax to a custom compilation of music in your own sensuously elegant and comfortably spacious private palapa.
CalyCanto Casitas are not about high-speed internet or cable television (although modern conveniences are certainly available). What we offer is an escape to simplicity, a path to tranquility, a destination where time stands still. Where you can be lulled to rest by the rhythm of waves in the distance or simply lean back and look toward the heavens to gaze at the shimmering stars. Where you can share and build memories. Where you can find yourself.

Todos Santos Dunes Building Stopped!
Buyers Lead to Believe the Construction Had Permit? Building on the dunes in Todos Santos, BCS, has always been controversial. The law provides that building requires a permit and a set-back. Construction is only allowed behind the dunes. This is for the protection of the owners, there neighbors and the environment, the dunes constituting an important ecosystem and protector of the coastline. Nonetheless, over the last few years several buildings have promoted the sale of dune lots and put this region at risk. Rumor suggested fines may have been paid, but clearly they were not enough as these did not prevent the construction from taking place. The following should be music to the ears of those fighting the good fight…. Submitted on behalf of the group of concerned neighbors of the Las Tunas dunes (to which we are all thankful). The Danger of Building on Fragile Dunes The dunes construction is in Federal hands now and the Las Tunas Homeowners Association will soon be resurrected as a voting body to ensure continued protection of our neighborhood and our coast. The construction site has officially been suspended by Profepa. No work will be allowed to continue. The builder is in violation of so many other things… besides building without permits, which is grounds alone to shut them down. They also have the authority to, and intend to, demand all existing construction to date be torn down. Of course it also goes without saying that significant fines will be levied as well. At Profepa’s request, biologists have prepared and provided reports of all the native flora and fauna that have been destroyed, and have assessed the area that the landowner will specifically be required to restore, once the construction is demolished. Construction on Todos Santos Dunes A full investigation is underway, with the mayor’s cooperation, of the local building inspector and his superior, who both have allowed the two previously built dunes homes to be built without permits, and this third one to start. Please note: There are absolutely NO permit applications for building any homes on file or permits ever issued for any construction on the dunes lots in any of the appropriate governing agency’s files…including the one that should have been filed in the local mayor’s office. The only legal permit issued is from Semarnat in 2005 allowing the developer to subdivide the lots….not to build. Unfortunately the lots have been and are continuing to be sold as having Semarnat approval to build. It’s just not true. It should be heartening for all of us to know that there are some good decent people in the government agencies with integrity, who do want to do the right thing and cannot be bought. They are the heroes in this scenario and hats off to them! Baja California Sur – President Calderón Inaugurates Hospital in La Paz
Declares that it will benefit over half a million inhabitants in Baja California Sur It involved an investment of 700 million pesos and will have 28 medical specialties Calderon Views Cutting Edge Cat Scan La Paz, Baja California Sur.- President Calderón inaugurated the Juan María de Salvatierra General Hospital with Specialties in La Paz, Baja California Sur, which will benefit 600,000 inhabitants and have 28 top-level medical specialties and services. “The Salvatierra Hospital will change the history of Baja California Sur as far as health is concerned. There will be a watershed in this hospital and not only in this hospital which commemorates the Bicentennial but also in the series of hospitals and clinics we are building in Baja California Sur, he said. Accompanied by State Governor Narciso Agúndez Montaño, and Federal Health Secretary José Ángel Córdova Villalobos, the President declared that despite the limitations it faces, during his administration, over 1,700 health facilities have been built. He added that the goal for 2012 is for all Mexicans to have Universal Health Coverage, in other words, a doctor, medicine and hospital treatment for anyone who needs it anywhere in the country. “Fortunately and thanks to Mexicans’ efforts, we are not only able to offer nearly two billion pesos for health but we are also supporting and will continue to support the development of Baja California Sur from Federal Government,” he said. Governor Agúndez Montaño declared that this “opus magnum” “marks a new stage in the health institutions and quality of health care of the residents of Baja California Sur.” At a cost of 760 million pesos, he stressed that this is the best way to commemorate Mexico’s Independence by establishing the bases for a long-term transformation of the population’s health. What is a Pueblo Magico? The Most Magical Moment in a Magical Place For decades artists, chefs, surfers, environmentalists and others recognizedthat Todos Santos had that something special, a quality that couldn’t adequately be captured in print or photos, that needed to be experienced. Well, the Mexican government, amidst absolutely no oppopsition whatsoever, has finally admitted that magic does indeed exist. You’ll be plased to know that on October 23rd, 2006, Todos Santos, Baja California Sur was designated a “Pueblo Magico” (Magical Town) by the Mexico’s Secretariat of Tourism (SECTUR). This honor is given to ony a handful of towns around Mexico that set themselves apart for their magical and timeless feeling, natural beauty, cultural riches or historical relevance. The program was launched in 2001. Since then a total of 36 towns have earned the honor to call themselves Magical. A Magical Town is the reflection of Mexico, of what it has done for its people, of who the Mexicans are, and of what makes them proud. It’s its people, people that through time and before modernity, was able to conserve, evaluate and defend its historical and cultural inheritance and is able to manifest it in its diverse expressions through its tangible and intangible patrimony. The Magical Towns are important localities with symbolic attributes, legend, history, and facts. In short, places with magic that emanates from each of their socio-cultural manifestations and that nowadays mean great opportunities for the enjoyment of tourists. In addition, a Magical Town is nowadays a distinguishing symbol, a recognized tourist mark and it is a duty of all people interested in their tourist development, to maintain it with the highest level of respect and fulfillment. Admittedly, another objective of the Programa Pueblos Mágicos is to emphasize the tourist value of localities inside the country, to structure tourism, but in a way that is innovating and original and can respond to an increasing demand for culture, traditions, adventure and natural scenery. A Pueblo Magico is a place that has symbolic characteristics, legends, history, important facts, a simple daily life and the magic that emanates from each of its socio-cultural manifestation, and that today signify a great opportunity for the enjoyment of tourists. Since 2001 the Secretaría de Turismo has invested in this program 178 million pesos through which it has been possible to raise 549 million pesos. The investment of the Federal, State and Municipal Governments has been used for the improvement and creation of infrastructure, services and urban image; tourist equipment; creation, improvement and rehabilitation of sites of tourist interest; creation, development and innovation of tourist product; professionalization and qualification of tourist sector employees; modernization of tourist small and medium enterprises and promotional programs.
